April Edition
Issue #4
Hey everybun! Spring is on the way and we just wanted to talk a little bit about sakura season and the reason why schools in Japan start their new year in April! If you guys didn’t know, Japan starts their school years in April to align with the governments fiscal year. And following along the school year is cherry blossom season!! It starts south of Japan and travels all the way up north usually from late March to May. Although, for the past few years sakura season has been experiencing delays due to unusually cold weather during the late winter and early spring.
Fun fact: cherry trees require a certain period of low temperatures during the winter for their buds to wake up! But because of the late start to winter, it’s still pretty warm for them to start the process, therefore causing them to bloom late throughout Japan. All that aside, once they finally bloom, they only last roughly about 7-10 days before the blossoms start to fall and wither. It’s kind of bittersweet in the sense that something so beautiful only lasts for a short time TT^TT I hope you guys are able to experience the spring in Japan one day and if you already have, please bask in the beauty of the sakura!
Purin's Cafe Review
Hey buns! I couldn’t wait to write about this because it’s about FOOD! Today I went on an adventure to Komeda Coffee and got some yummy treats for myself~ I got myself a few things to munch on which were a pork katsu sandwich with a basket of french fries, a blueberry yogurt frappe, and for dessert I got this danish pancake thing called a Shiro Noir!!
Let me do a run down of each item. First off, the katsu sandwich was soooo yummy! The crispiness of the outer layer of the katsu was so perfect~ And as you guys know, I DID remove the shredded cabbage that was in the sandwich(sorry veggies, but not for me >.< ) EXCEPT FOR THE FRENCH FRIES! Those are an exception heh. Next, the blueberry yogurt frappe was probably my favorite thing ever. The tartness from the yogurt with the sweetness from the blueberry puree was chef’s kiss~ I think I gave myself a brain freeze from drinking it so fast though lol(I’m so glad Butter wasn’t with me or else she would yell at me to drink it slower…)
And for the star of the show, the shiro noir was something I have never tried before! It was like if a danish and a pancake had a baby and the shiro noir was born~ The flavor I got was the one with custard pudding(of course I had to represent myself in some way). Even though I said that the blueberry frappe was my favorite, the dessert was actually my favorite. But the frappe was also really good too…I CAN’T CHOOSE! I love sweets too much so I’m just going to say that both are my favorites. Sadly, I forgot to take a picture of the shiro noir because I kind of inhaled it without realizing. But trust me it was very pretty and obviously very yummy!! 10/10 would go back again~
Pongo's Birthday Cake Disaster
Hi everybun! This month for Pongo's birthday cake, I decided to make him a birthday cake with a chiffon base instead of the usual angel food cake that I usually make (because Purin is usually the culprit that finishes off the desserts, so I have to at least make an attempt to protect his risk against type 2 diabetes). I still wanted it to be light and fluffy but a bit more dense than an angel food cake! Anyways I followed a standard recipe (she always goes for the recipe with the best backstory) and added sprinkles in the batter to get that rainbow cake mix look!
It turned out perfect. Just as I was getting ready to decorate it, all of a sudden I hear this AGITATING, GRATING voice, and felt a sense of imminent doom. Tomaki flies in, screaming with a baseball bat, and smashes the edge of the cake. "I THINK I GOT IT" he yells and then looks up at me in terror... I gave him three seconds to run but I caught up and beat him with the bat. I was so upset about the cake but Kumi came in afterwards (all that screaming and beating woke her up) suggesting I just cut the cake into the shape of Pongo's hat. It was a great idea!
Kumi's Anime Recommendation
Hey everybun. Kumi here. I’m back with another interesting anime I’m confident you will all enjoy(You can send me your thanks in advance). This anime for this month is called “How I Attended An All Guy’s Mixer”. The anime starts off with college student Tokiwa getting invited by his female classmate, Suo, to attend a mixer party.
He kind of reminds me of Pongo sometimes. I admire her confidence and ability to have that kind of aura around her. Reminds me of myself honestlysmirks and giggles Anyway, this anime is filled with laughter and it’s amusing to see these men become so conflicted with their identities and what kind of people they actually want to date.
Pongo's Birthday Drink
Hey everybun! It’s your bunboy, Tomaki!!! I wanted to share my recipe for a delicious mocktail catered for Pongo! His birthday is right around the corner and I’ve decided to create something that I know he would enjoy. Please try out this recipe at home if you’re not a drinker yourself! This recipe is kind of a combo of a Sunrise Mocktail and a Gummy Bear fizz. Pongo loves his fruity drinks and I noticed that he always has gummy bears in his pocket, bag, nightstand, pretty much everywhere!
So what I did for his birthday drink is to start the base with some orange juice and some sort of lemon lime soda filled to the top with ice. Then, what you want to do here to get that cool sunrise/sunset effect is to slowly pour grenadine at the top so that it sits on the rest of the drink (you can tilt a spoon into the drink and pour the grenadine in that way if you have trouble achieving that gradient effect)! And lastly, I topped it with his favorite red, blue, and green gummy bears to give it that pop of color.
Pongo's Book Club
Hello every bun. I have finished a new exciting book. It is called "Call of the Camino". It is dual narrative book about two women that walk through the Camino de Santiago at different time periods.
The book was okay. I was more interested in the actual Camino de Santiago.
It is an ancient network of pilgrim routes throughout Spain that are as long as 500 miles! It was originally a pilgrimage route for Christians, which is why there are many beautiful cathedrals and churches to see in almost every city. In modern times though, many people take it for all sorts of reasons.
Some still do it for religious reasons, some do it as a spiritual journey to figure out what they want to do in life, others do it to challenge themselves physically. I think Tomaki would do it just to tell us that he did it. I don't think there's any amount of sweets or games we could bribe Purin with to get him to do it. I don't think Butter or Kumi would want to, so if I were to ever try walking the Camino, I would have to go with Tomaki.
Kumi's Pick
Pongo's Pick
This is an interesting one. Usually Butter is the type to get motion sick, but to everybun’s surprise Pongo also gets sick! It’s just that he’s better at hiding it (we don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing…) He likes to carry around what is called an etiquette disposable bag. It’s mainly used for when you’re not feeling to well and start to feel nauseous and you don’t have a bathroom to run to. This really helps him especially during long trips on the road~
Butter's Pick
If Butter isn’t baking, she’s journaling! She loves compiling random things when she journals, whether it be some pretty tag she got from something she bought or pictures they take during their outings! She HEAVILY decorates her journal entries with bupuri deco stickers because it only makes sense to, right? It’s her way of decompressing after the buns like to test her patience sometimes.

Issue #3
We're Back!
Hi Everybun! We apologize for the radio silence here at Bupuri Times. We are a one and a half person team and we've had a lot going on these past few months. Just when I thought we would be able to publish the newsletter consistently, we hit a wall. I hate making excuses, but I feel tremendous guilt for not being able to keep up with something I promised myself I would do. Even though we don't have a large community, it feels worse knowing I'm letting down the few people that are supporting us.
I truly appreciate each and every one of you that have stayed with us all this time. I'm working hard behind the scenes to gather more help so we can make more things for you to love! (and to grow the bun cult of course!!)
I've enlisted the help of a few bun members to help us with the newsletter! (If you'd like to be a part of our newsletter as well, keep reading until the end for more info!)
That's why this month may seem a bit... experimental, because it is! It will be our first time trying new things and hopefully you guys
Kumi's Anime Recommendation
Hey everybun. I came across a new anime that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed as of late. It’s called “Pass the Monster Meat, Milday!” I find it fitting to watch while eating. I’m too lazy to explain everything, so I’ll keep it short.
(My paws are cramping by writing all of this…WAAAAY too much work). Anyway, you can check it out if you want. Or not. Either way, it’s none of my concern. Unless if you do enjoy it, then by all means, be sure to credit me and thank me for introducing you to magnificence.
Rosted Broccoli
(HEAR ME OUT)
Purin doesn’t usually like veggies (especially broccoli because he claims it just tastes like grass and water), but while in Japan, we had soup curry with roasted broccoli and he actually liked it?! He told me how much he liked how well the it went with the curry. Everybun was in awe seeing how much he enjoyed the broccoli.
Except for Kumi of course- she wasn’t as impressed because eating veggies didn't seem like an awe worthy task. Once we got home, I decided it would be a good idea to try and cook it at home for Purin so he wouldn’t die of malnutrition. His only source of nutrition is when we blend inconspicuous
Pongo's Book Club
Hello everybun. This is Pongo. This month I read a book called "She and Her Cat" by Makoto Shinkai and Naruki Nagakawa.
It's a book with four short stories that are all connected. Each story was about a cat. I like stories about cats because I like to learn about other species. I've never met a cat before in person but I would like to one day. I just hope I don't scare it and get scratched...
Then again, if I upset Kumi she would probably scratch me.
Anyways, I would recommend this book to those that want to start reading more. It is quite short, but it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. So I think that means it's good.
Japanese Hotcakes
I'm not really a fan of pancakes. I usually prefer other sweets (I know, I know, I see the irony) but in Kyoto, we went to a cafe and tried hot cakes at a fancy tea house and they were amazing! The airiness and fluffiness of the pancakes made each bite feel like I was biting into a cloud~ I didn’t think it would be anything special.
Pancakes are just... well pancakes. Flat and meh. But after trying this new version of pancakes, it opened my eyes to more doors of opportunities! So I wanted to try recreating them myself at home!
I didn't realize that you could make something so different with the same ingredients if you just change the technique! I'm sure this could be a metaphor
Purin's Game Review
Hey buns! I've been playing through Persona 5 Royal for the past few months and I've finally completed it! It's such a long game (took me 150 hours LOL)
but I think it's worth every minute! The format the story is told through does get a bit repetitive, but everything surrounding the characters are all very enticing, especially towards the later half of the game. When it comes to gameplay, it's not as engaging as Expedition 33 for example, but the team synergy and type counters are all very cool, ESPECIALLY with the sick visual effects and graphics!
I don't think I've played a game that oozes so much aura, and the game came out like 10 years ago! I think the game does a perfect job of connecting the characters, themes, and gameplay together to tell a hopeful and heartwarming story. For sure this is a top 5 games of all times for me!
Kumi's Pick
Tomaki's Pick
Tomaki is always looking for new things to spice up the gym routine and recently, he picked up an ipod! He says a phone is too distracting so having an ipod helps him with his sets. (I do not know how that works I do not go to the gym)
November Issue
A Change In Seasons
Hi everybun! It seems like we're finally feeling a shift in seasons here in Los Angeles. The past few days have been especially chilly because of the unusual amounts of rainfall. How has the weather been where you are? I'm sure for most of the country, the weather has been far worse
(╥﹏╥)
We hope that everybun has a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving celebration! (To those that celebrate) Thank you for taking the time to read this month's newsletter as well!~ ♡⸜(˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶)⸝♡
With lots of love,
The Bupuri Team
Purin's Dessert Review
Hello everybun! This month's dessert review features the Viet Coffee chocolate chip cookie from ReBakesic! It has been my go to for the past month! I think I purchased it over 6 times...
I forgot to take an actual photo but it was HUGE! You could definitely taste the distinct viet coffee flavor in the chocolate! 5/5 Will continue to purchase until I am absolutely sick of it ꉂ(˵˃ ᗜ ˂˵)
Here's a group photo of us at the cafe! Tomaki and Kumi finally got to come along!~
Kumi's Drink Review
Hey everybun. Kumi here.
I was dragged along to the mall with mother and she purchased a drink with warabi mochi?! I've never seen anything like this, even in Japan. (Kumi you're from a rural town that only has one 711...) Anyways, I thought the idea was ridiculous. Mochi in a DRINK? How sacrilegious.
However, after one sip, I reluctantly took another one, and another one, until I could no longer deny it. This crazy drink was actually good. I hate being wrong. It defies my omnipotence. You guys should try it I guess. Or not. It doesn't matter to me.
New Members of the Family!
This month we welcome Kumi and Tomaki to the family finally! They've made a long journey to be here and we're so excited to share more about them soon! Please take a peep at their character cards if you'd like to learn more about them!
We will be working hard to open our online store soon, so everyone can adopt a bun! Thank you again for your patience (つ╥﹏╥)つ

Butter's Dessert Review
Hello everybun! Welcome to my first food review column! We're starting it off strong with the most perfect pancake I've ever seen and tasted in my life! We ordered this pancake in an afternoon tea shop in Uji during our matcha hunt!
It was soft, fluffy, and had the most perfect pad of butter, just like me! I was shocked to see such a beauty. She was served with syrup, cream, and a scoop of ice cream. I hope one day I can be as perfect as this pancake was ߹𖥦߹
Purin's Dessert Review
Hello everybun! I come to present to you the most delicious dessert I had on the trip: Matcha and hojicha tiramisu!~ We ordered it from maccha house on more than one occasion because it was THAT good! We also encountered some interesting looking creatures along the way...
The inside was moist, not too sweet, and each bite kept me wanting more! Even as I write this, I crave the sweet creamy flavors of this dessert (˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥ )づ♡
